A 1996 Saturn SL2 in green, with the little spoiler. Arguably the nicest-looking model Saturn ever spat out, my car previously survived a terrible flood and, when I got a rod knock on the highway at one point after high school, limped me twenty miles home on three cylinders. I had a head unit installed and Alpine speakers, because stereo meant more to me than anything.
It was a good car. I eventually sold it for $1200 and bought a ‘97 740iL.

I had a Saturn SL too, that little 5 speed ripped. Just kidding...it barely moved. A/C, CD Player, and roll up windows; talk about living large.

I always loved these little things. I had a couple of friends with them in high school and we’d “rally” them around the giant subdivision construction sites that covered Florida at the time. They held up to the abuse well.

They’re pretty sturdy. After the flood waters receded, it cranked right up. It always handled well; I remember having a lot of fun hooning mine anywhere I could.

Mine wasn’t fast, but it had plenty of pep for a 2L I4! Personally, I liked the roll-up windows — they never broke.

Yeah. I loved getting 40+ mpg with a car I bought for less than two grand. When my commute shortened, I was happy to get out of it and into something faster.

I remember filling that car up for about fifteen dollars and driving for two weeks, no problem — and school was 15 miles each way out in the country. Pure awesome.
I wonder... can you turbo an SL2?

I’m sure you can. They were pretty successful autocross cars iirc.

Fun and cheap, the right way to autoX.
